Security Police Operations Base Entry Gatehouses   Des Moines International Airport – Des Moines, Iowa FEH’s design of two uniquely styled entry gatehouses responded to two challenges: answering checkpoint security needs while creating a first impression that reflects the F-16 National Guard facility. The resulting brick guard designed with curvilinear roofs replicates the aerodynamic design of the F-16 fighter. On the main gatehouse, a brick “tail fin” serves as an antennae tower while completing the symbolic aircraft representation. The tail fin imagery is repeated in an entrance message center informing passerbys of base events.
