FEH Associates has created a storybook village with castle, feasting hall and quaint little shops as part of the new 20-acre home for the Des Moines Renaissance Faire. The new Festival Park within Sleepy Hollow Sports Park will be completed in time for this year’s Renaissance Faire during the first three weekends of September. Visitors will enter the village over a footbridge and walk through a “Main Street” of specialty and food vendor shops. Focal point of the village will be castle and a central banquet hall. Denny Sharp, FEH president, designed most of the buildings including the Two Wenches Coffee and Chocolate Shoppe operated by his wife, Kelly Sharp.
“It’s different from anything I’ve done in the past,” Sharp told the Des Moines Register. Many of the shops appear to be two stories, when in reality they are just one. “There is some sleight-of-hand involved. All the buildings are really small, but we wanted them to feel substantial and big, so we played with scale and proportion.”
